About Us For this project, we propose to build a database for the company Mintz Paving and Sealcoating. Mintz Paving and Sealcoating is a startup company in Binghamton, NY that specializes in the construction and maintenance of residential driveways and municipal parking lots. Since the company’s founding in 2015, Mintz Paving and Sealcoating has tremendously expanded its business in the Binghamton area. As a result, this small startup was not quite ready or organized to take on a large customer base. For this project, our business expert is Brandon Mintz. Brandon worked for the company last summer as a laborer and an assistant to the company owner. As business expanded, he noticed that the owner’s data systems were very unorganized, and that the owner had trouble keeping track of project records and supplies orders. In response, we have proposed to create a database that will organize records pertaining to company projects, employees, supplies, and customers.

Through the planning phases of our project, we have determined that our database will create a great amount of business value for Mintz Paving and Sealcoating. Through a system of organized records, Mintz Paving and Sealcoating will now have easy access to records involving more than just the customer. An organized record system for supplies and vendors will allow the owner to refer to previous supply orders to track costs. It will also serve as a reference, as the owner will be able to look back at how much supplies he ordered from certain vendors so he does not order too much or too little for future projects. An organized system of forms would also provide business value to the owner. Forms available to potential customers will allow the owner to keep track of upcoming projects. From this, the owner will now find it easy to schedule projects along with easily maintaining relationships with customers. An organized system of scheduling projects will make it easier to organize teams and assign them to different projects. Forms will also allow the owner to keep track of estimates for upcoming projects so he will know how exactly how much supplies to have on hand for the day of the project.

Throughout the history of the business, there was a great deal of unorganized paper records that led to miscommunications with customers and employees. The unorganized data also led to the owner to mistakenly order either too much or too little supplies for a project, which ended up costing him a great deal of time and money.
